the workshop:
How do we write the body moving through the space of a poem? How can a poet write to recite, and recite to write? How can the body become a channel for the divine (poetry)? Using techniques from orators, actors and musicians, as well as poets such as Tongo Eisen-Martin, Susan Howe, Allen Ginsberg, etc. this workshop provides an insight into writing and reciting like a body that can access the depths of language for both secular truth (jargon) and spiritual momentum.
the facilitator:
Brian Alarcon is a Colombian-American poet and performance artist from Queens, New York. His poetry crosses the borders between mediums and industries, having performed at art galleries, for media clients such as Versace and Drome Magazine, nonprofits like City Artists Corps and Counterpath Press, and he’s received fellowships from the Queer|Art Foundation and the Jack Kerouac School. His works have been published by The Columbia Review, Acentos Review, No, Dear, among others.
